"She’s got soul! You probably never heard of Nicole Berke but once you’ve listened to her soulful voice and skills on the ivories, you won’t forget her.” – Ian St. Clair, Wyoming Tribune Eagle
Nicole Berke is a singer, songwriter and keyboardist based out of Boston. Her lifelong obsession with writing songs has pulled her towards all genres, producing a unique and powerful mix of soul, jazz & alt pop. Nicole released her first EP, Frondescence in 2008 when she was just 20 years old and moved to Portland, Oregon soon after. There, she finished a psychology degree while continuing to write, perform and tour. 2012 was an exciting year for Nicole: she completed a four month residency in Beijing, China as the lead singer for an R&B band, received an endorsement from the keyboard company Kurzweil and began working on her first full-length album. In 2013, Nicole released her new album, This Bright Before, co-produced with drummer/pianist Josh Lava. Shortly after finishing her album, Nicole and her band seized several exciting opportunities in Portland: a sold out record release show, the good fortune of opening for legendary jazz organ player Dr. Lonnie Smith and a collaboration with the Portland Youth Ballet, where dancers performed pieces choreographed to the music from This Bright Before. The last four months of that year, Nicole completed a second international residency as a featured singer at the Intercontinental Hotel in Hong Kong. In 2015, Nicole moved back to Boston where she is currently teaching at the Real School of Music and working on a new album at Plaid Dog Recording thanks to a successful Indiegogo campaign. She is incredibly excited to share this new music soon!
The endearing warmth and charm of Julia Mark's music and voice has quickly made her a favorite in the Boston music scene. Her music is optimistically dissonant and lyric-driven and her musicianship on piano or ukulele flows seamlessly through her many quirky song topics.
Julia for the listener who likes to transcend into a musical and visual scene. With the songwriting penchant of Carole King and the soft easy vocal of Suzanne Vega, Julia weaves in and out of playful melody and wit to deliver her own unique songs and stories.
