Songwriter Roundup with Katie Dobbins and Various Special Guests!
New England Music Award-winning Katie Dobbins draws from a palette of contemporary folk and new country to create a genre uniquely her own. With a mastery of storytelling and the heart of a poet, this soulful songstress captures elements of life and relationships in ways that lift the spirit and challenge the soul. Carolyn Kruse of Country 102.5 WKLB raved, "Sweet but bold, Katie's voice is reminiscent of one of her heroes, Jewel, but only deeper . . . a fearless spirit with a gentle touch." Tom Bianchi, Talent Buyer at Somerville's The Burren, voiced "with gorgeous harmony and song Katie lyrically weaves in stories of healing, growing and moving forward through the struggles of life." Dobbins' sophomore album, There Is Light, contains remarkably honest songs that capture seasons of both hardship and joy, but hold onto the hope that light will always illuminate and overpower darkness.
Rachel Marie follows in a tradition of unapologetically forthright women folksingers, with songs that hearken to "overstuffed lines of Tori Amos, philosophical turn of Indigo Girls, and lilting vocals like Joni Mitchell." The social awareness of folk meets the introspection of the singer-songwriter tradition with a moderate dose of snark. An endearingly quirky stage presence as honest as her songs keeps audiences charmed. Boston-based and Pennsylvania-raised, Rachel has shared stages with Cheryl Wheeler, Antje Duvekot, Michelle Lewis, Grace Morrison, and the Kennedys. Her November 2018 single “Looking for Light” was featured on an officially curated Spotify playlist the week of its release.
Theis is a Boston-based, Indiana-bred pop songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her latest EP “Casual” explores the strange journey of online dating. Her work is marked by sharp, catchy melodies amplified by a style that reveres both old and new — think 60s French pop meets Feist superfan. Theis swaps instruments and sings with a tender assuredness that mirrors the duality in her writing: confidence and doubt, frustration and joy, sadness and humor. For fans of big feels and singing along.
EMILY AND JAKE
Formed between Boston and Portland ME, Emily and Jake are a folk duo who create gracefully warm music with effortless harmonizing, easy melodicism, and raw honesty. "Beautifully simple and understated" states Ian Miller from For The Love of Bands. Imagine their sound as a combination of Mumford and Sons, The Head and The Heart, and Fleetwood Mac.
Amanda McCarthy is a storyteller compelled to speak the truth. With her heart on her sleeve and her priorities in check, she strives to convey a message of authenticity through her music. She doesn't fit in a box and she doesn't like rules. Blending many influences, her original music is the infusion of pop/country and alternative rock, sprinkled with millennial snark and the heart of an old soul.
Amanda's original music has been recognized through nominations and awards from the 59th Grammy Awards Nomination Ballot ("Elephant in the Room" and "Bad News"), Cornell University's Emerging Artist Series (Winner), NYC's Coffee Music Project (Finalist w/ "Somewhere in Syracuse"), Royal Caribbean Cruises, and New England based award shows for Worcester Music Awards, Limelight Music Magazine and the Southern New England Music Expo. Radio has been supportive as well with Boston airplay on The Bull 101.7, WKLB 102.5, WATD 105.9, FRANK 106.3, North Shore 104.9 and others. Her debut full-length album "Road Trip" was released in June 2019.
FRONT & TURNER
